I just removed a set of Kappas and installed some hertz dcx. I also added a bt355. I have been running a RF PBR 300. I think the hertz sound better than the kappas and I can get it much louder without distorting but that may be partially due to the bt355.

interesting! I was out on the bike today and with my Hertz ecx and kw kac1804 amp they get distorted about half volume. I'm gonna try them with the SS Pn4.1000 when I get it hooked up. See what's better the Hertz or Kappa's

The hertz dcx were loud and clear but a little sharp. They sounded great for about 3 hours til they popped.... I guess it's back to the drawing board for me...

The DCX have a peak of 120w, the Kappas 225. There's a significant difference as to which speaker can get louder and take the wattage needed to hear at volumes. Chances are a lower volumes the DCX and ECX have better sound quality, but no way they can get as loud as the kappas. The other key is setting your gains so you don't have distortion otherwise speakers go "pop".

MN, how did you set your gains on the PBR?

I added a BT355 when I installed the hertz so that cleaned things up a lot. I was able to turn up the gain some and still be clear. The Bt355 cuts most of the lows out so it was a little sharp, even after I did a slight adjustment to the hpf.

Two things:

1. Try setting your gains with a DMM and the bike running. Often what sounds good parked, you can't hear the distortion once the bike is running and the added volts from being on

2. Turn down your AVC. The spike in voltage to turn the radio up when amplified will cause lead to a distorted signal
