I had a 2010 X that I put the SS amp and 6.5 Polks in the fairing. Great sound from 2 speakers. I now have a 2012 SE3 that has the lowers and saddle bag lid speakers, I cant hear the sound from the lidsm, but my wife can. If I change the fade, I can hear them, but I am not sure I can recommend you make that investment.

If you have a high powered amp and good speakers in your lids you will hear them, you get the surround sound effect! If I lean back a little say with my feet on the cruise pegs I can hear my lids and tour pak speakers! LIDS ARE DEFINITELY GOOD FOR THE PASSENGER. The driver will hears LOWERS better than lids!! Tour pak speakers you can hear when you do not have a passenger, passenger legs will block the sound from the Tour Pak speakers!

If you are in to audio lids are a must. They complete the sound. If you just want to upgrade to a better system you do not get 1000.00 worth of an upgrade. (That's a tad high too). You'd be better off putting that money towards quality components in your fairing as I'm calculating that's about 70-80% of what you hear at speeds. I have a **** load of speakers in my bags and lids and I don't hear any of it at 80mph. Everyone else around me does! The same goes for my shiny front wheel too, I don't see it but others do. That's kinds how I feel about lids and bag speakers. They make the bike cooler.
