Default Help with HU/speakers/amp for 06 FLSTC!

Help! Female rider who knows nothing about all this. This is all information overload and I'm not sure where to begin. I see a few of you regulars who seem to know what you are talking about on here. I've read a lot, but still not sure what to do.
I'm looking for a setup to run in a fairing on my 06 Heritage Softail. I am new to all this lingo, so not sure what info you need. HU -maybe spend $200 ish. Some of the HU's I have seen recommended are: Kenwood 998, Sony MEX-M70BT, JVC KD-R97MBS, Alpine CDE-HD149BT... I will probably want 4 speakers in fairing from what I'm reading out there. And amp wise, I think a friend is giving me a Rockford Fosgate PBR300X4 Punch. I can't afford to go top of the line, but want a good setup and am willing to pay to have something that sounds great at higher speeds. CD is not required, I'm not sure what I should really look for in HU. I like the idea of red back lighting. but that is minor....

Welcome to the forum!

Do you currently have a fairing for the Softail?

Thanks! Just signed up on here last night.
No, not yet. I'm shopping for my fairing too. Been looking at Reckless, Wideopen, Dragonfly, Hoppe (seems w/ Hoppe, you cannot buy just the fairing) Woodys...

Most fairings for the softail come with a 4-51/4" speaker or 2-6.5" or 2-6x9 speaker combination. My sons has the Reckless fairing with the 4-51/4" setup. The fairing is well made but the others you've mentioned are just as good.

Rose -

If you want to do it right the first time.

1. HU - Sony Mex M70BT
2. Amp - Rockford Fosgate T400X2ad
3. Speakers - Arc Moto 602's

A little on the high end side but you won't beat it for a two speaker system.
If the speakers and amp are outside of your budget. Go with the Infinity Kappa 62.11i speakers and the Cerwin Vega B52 amp.
