Default Putting together audio upgrade for 2010 ultra

Am considering Kenwood KDC-898 head unit with sound stream pn4.1000d along with HAT 6.5 mirus series in fairing. was wondering what best drop in 6.5 speakers for rear pods would be. I am considering the alpine spr-60 however the kickers look good for price and also weather proof. also any suggestions for amp mount with this setup? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would pass on the Mirus speakers. Get the BT Titan II's if you are going to do that. A friend blew 2 sets using that amp and a kenwood. Great SQ at lower volumes but not really as loud as you want them on a bike.

Agreed. The Titan II's are much better speakers! I know guys like the Kickers and the Alpines in the rear pods. But I've had very good luck with the Polk MM651's back there. They sound really nice in that location. As a disclaimer the polks have had some issues in the past with the tweeter stalks but I believe polk has corrected that issue. I installed several sets this past summer and no issues yet. They do come with crossovers but they are easy to mount.

with the soundstream amp running at 4 ohms how would that work out with the polks? Do you know if the alpines will just drop in rear pods. was wanting to put something back there that not only sounds good but looks good also. wasn't wanting to get into using spacers. Just starting to put this system together getting ready for spring riding weather. any input would help. I see where you suggest the sound stream amp, what are your thoughts on head unit.

The Soundstream supports 2 or 4ohm, so you're good with either speaker. The Kenwood 898 is a good HU, I run the 998 myself and both have similar features. I kinda like the look of the alpine grills in gloss black.....but still, I'd drop the idea of using the Mirus up front.

Yep Alpine's will drop right in. But the polks sound better. Don't get me wrong the alpines sound good back there but I've had both speakers back there and the polks sound better. As Haze said no worries on the speaker impedance. The soundstream is 2 and 4 ohm compatible. That amp with the Titan II's and the polks in the rear pods is a hell of a system.

Will order Titan II's from Biketronics. and a buddy of mine told me to look at sony marine head units. Where are you mounting crossovers for polks in rear pods, under tour pack?

In the front of the tour pak. right behind the little leather flap. Just stick em on with industrial velcro or double sided tape. You want the Sony MEX-M70BT.

thanks Gannicus you've been very helpful. have a friend that runs the sony h/u but I was a little skeptical after reading some of the reviews. Looks like ill be ordering the sony h/u, soundstream pn4,1000d, titan IIs for fairing and polks for pods. what are your thoughts on using polyfil in rear pods or sound mat in fairing?
