Exclamation Kappa 62.11i Surronds torn apart

January of this year I installed 4 Kappa 62.11i speakers and SS PN4.520D on a 2015 FLHTK. These speakers where installed on the outside of the pods along with the Boom Grills, modified to clear the tweeter. The gains where set by DMM. The system sounded pretty darn good.

Well I had planned on installing the BT speaker brackets and get rid of the pods altogether. So I took advantage of the recent BT sale and purchased the 7.1s with brackets and Line Levelers. All the parts are coming tomorrow so I started taking it all apart today. After removing the pods I found that the Surronds on both speakers where torn apart. I wasn't all that surprised because I have been reading of this happening in the forum.

It appears the surround was touching the grill. The surround measures just over 6.5" and the inside of the grill just under 6.5". With the grills installed, and pods mounted, it is impossible to see what the actual clearance is. Guess I should have measured first.

I've seen this a few times now too with the Rushmore bikes. Like you said must be rubbing....looks like it's not faulty speakers.

To the right of the pencil you can see what looks like grill marks on the surround.

Yep. Same issue here. It's a shame because they are great sounding speakers. They just don't work in the Rushmore pods. Harman warrantied mine...give them a call!

The BT speaker brackets are the way to go. I emailed Harman.

I have my Kappas installed inside the pods I thought it looked like there was a lot more clearance. I also installed hogtunes grilles.

Where the speakers installed inside or outside the pods?

It would be nice if they replace mine also.
