Kenwood KDC-X998 (and others) playing by genre - I STAND CORRECTED

When you push left button "in" the radio changes folders on the jumpdrive just like playlists on an Ipod? You can still change individual songs within that folder by pushing the right button up or down?
If that is the case, then that is basically the same concept at my playlists on my ipod. all i have to do is put the songs I want in certain folders (country 1, country 2, hard rock 1, hard rock 2, alternative, etc). I would be able to use the left button to change between the folders and the right button to change the songs within that button. all without every touching the HU. Let me know if I got that right? Thanks

I am in the process of getting this unit and the BT retro kit. So I understand correctly if I use my usb thumb drive direct to the front usb port, I can view Artist/Album/Song?
Or do I have to use the Kenwood software to do so. I don't care about genre. I can sync with windows media player or direct from pc to thumb drive. Files will be layered as Artis/Album/Song in the Thumb Drive.

The benefit of using the Kenwood Music Editor Light software is for organizing and quickly searching for songs in folders or albums. You could create and name folders (say by Genre) and place them on a USB drive then run the the Music Editor to create a type of Playlist that can be easily searchable.
