Default Kenwood HU no power. Weird Scenario.

Yesterday I was riding my bike to work and was playing a CD. I got about 3 miles from work and decided to turn it off, but was in heavy highway traffic and just turned the volume all the way down instead of trying to press the power button. I'm running the Biketronics Retro Radio Kit, amp and speakers.

When I got to work, I did as I always do, I remove the faceplate and put the splash cover over it. When I left last night, the HU would not power on. I'm really at a loss here. I haven't check to see if there is a fuse out on the bike yet, but I'm thinking if there was there would be more than just the radio without power. I also can't remember if there is a fuse in the power wire that runs to the battery.

Of course I'll check these things, but the system has been stable and no problems until yesterday and the only thing I am wondering is if turning the volume all the way down had some weird kinda effect on the HU or the Retro Radio Kit.

Any suggestions?

What model Kenwood? My BT858U crapped out in Sturgis, also have BT amp, speakers and retro kit. Worked fine all day and pulled the faceplate when I got to hotel for the night. Tried to power it up next morning and nothing. The 15a radio fuse in the fuse box was fine and so was the 10a in the back of the radio, but radio was totally dead, no lights flickered nothing....Called BT when I got back and after checking a few voltages they sent a new one out.

Let us know what you find out! I'm running that hu too. Interested in seeing how durable it is as well as if I should be detaching the plate or not...

So I wanted to let you guys with Kenwood HU's know, I found the problem. The BT Retro Radio kit's positive lead has a fuse in it. I took it out and it looked fine. I looked in my service manual and located the radio power fuse and it looked ok. I put both of them back in and turn the ignition on an the HU powered up. It came up like factory where you have to cancel the demo mode so something made it "clip" and disconnecting the power solved the issue. I saw that behind the faceplate was a reset button, but I don't think that would have done anything if it wasn't getting power. Hope this helps.

Interesting, I don't remember seeing a fuse in there. By retro radio kit you're referring to the red unit or am I missing something, got a pic by any chance?

My bad. The inline fuse was on the power lead coming from the BT2180 amp.
