Anyone ever try to run 6.5 subs in the lower fairing?
How would they sound?
Or not worth doing?

6.5 aren't subs, and lowers are too small of enclosure. Put good speakers down there and let'em rip.

 

It is a common question, I have yet to see anyone do it, yet everyone says it's not worth doing?

Lack of enclosure space is usually the answer, yet there are free air sub's out there.

I'm tossing JBL's 6x9's in my lowers Polk's 6.5 in the fairing... this should cover all my mid-range and IF I need more I'll most likely focus on subs or 6x9's in the bags. I listen to rock and country 99% of the time so I'm not much of a "base-head" audio guy. I'm more for clear sound.

I might give it a try. I just installed 6.5's from Biketronics in the fairing and a Soundstream PN4.520 amp. Pretty happy with how it sounds, I'll have to buy the lower fairing set-up first. 6.5 subs seem pretty cheap if they don't work out I can always put full range in there.

 

What 6.5 "subs" are you considering?

I've tried a few speakers in my lowers and none really could produce much bass in that location much less any real Low end you could hear on the road.

As for infinite baffle subs, those are normally larger diameter speakers used in different applications.

Try it and report back....but I'd compare them to a good coaxial and see which one produces more sound for you.

 

Man - Throw some Moto 602's in there and call it a day. You'll be more than happy with the bass response!!

 

I'm not set on any type speaker yet. I was surfing and found these shallow mount subs.

I ran a set of HogTunes 'sub' woofer speakers in the lower fairings and well it was a bit disappointing. I had some adapter rings prefrabricated and now run BikeTronics 7.1 speakers and its a different experience altogether. These speakers paired with a pair of 6x9 Polk speakers in the detachable fairing provide plenty of low frequency response on the highway. Anyway at high speed I've found really low frequency tends to 'disappear' out of the soundscape.

 

I hear ya, wasn't expecting booming bass at hwy speed, but cruising along the coast line here in south Florida at 35 mph I'm sure I would hear the bass sound.
Still unsure which way to get a 4 speaker set-up, lower fairings (cost less) or speaker lids with 6x9's (cost more)

I live in Miami if you want to hear lowers with BT 6.5’s or Arc Moto’s.

Cruising 35 down A1A you wouldn’t hear it man. There’s just not enough low end to replicate from those speakers in that enclosure. I looked up a few 6.5 subs and all of their frequency ranges weren’t much lower than what a quality 6.5 midrange produces and all of their sensitivity were all in the lower 80’s (those Earthquakes were 77). Which means you would need a ton of power to get those speakers at the volume where you could hear them on the road. By comparison the BT 6.5’s are 94db.
