OK, some of my parts were delivered today, still waiting on the parts for my rear speaker harness. I'm making it myself and using deutch connectors. So, I know a lot of guys here are not a fan of J&M, however regardless of how you feel their amp mount for the 14+ works and is well designed...it's also the only one I've found that keeps all the mounting points together in the 14+ bikes. As you can see by the pictures the amp needs to be mounted with speaker connections to your right (as facing the front of the bike) and power/speaker outputs to the left (as facing the front of the bike).

So far this is just preliminary and I haven't connected everything or put the fairing back on yet. But, so far it looks like it will work.

I'll make up some decent directions with pictures like I did for the CB install when I get a chance. Most people won't really need them as long as you're half way handy with basic tools.

 

Man that looks fantastic. Yeah the J&M modeled after the Arc 125.4 is the exact same size as the PN4.1000D. Great call.

How much does one of those mounts cost? Because that looks great! I think you're going to be happy with the outcome.

Thanks haze! I was trying to measure and draw up my own mount, but without an extra set of hands to help out I wasn't making good progress. After searching around all the audio sites I found this one and figured why not try it.

I believe the mount was $159 normally, I also ordered 2 wire harness connections and the guy I spoke with gave me a nice discount. Just got done hooking it up, so far it works and nothing blew up. I also bought the REM connector from V-Twin audio, no more turn on pops like the RF amp did. Need to play with the gain a little but I think when I get the rear 6x9's in you'll be able to hear me rockin' a couple streets away.

Anyone wanting to make their own wire harness in the future here's a link to a good place you can get all the Deutch connector parts. Order the DT series repair packs, make sure you get both sides (plug & recepticle).

Setting your gains, I think DGreen posted not long ago at what volume the 14' radio distorts. Based on that volume you can use a DMM to set it, or if I head your way one weekend I have handy distortion detector tool SMD-1 you can use. On my radio at 3/4 volume just a hair before the 50% on the gains was where I reached distortion.

You know even with the mount you are still well under on cost compared to any amp with the same amount of power that fits in the fairing. Sweet deal man.

 

haze- I'll take a look for the thread, thanks! For now I did the old 3/4 volume and turn it up until it sounds distorted then back it off a bit. I still have to get my lids from the painter which will be another week or two. I will confirm that the amp fits and the fairing goes back on too. I put a little velcro under the amp to keep it from wiggling around, even without velcro there's very little room for it to move, and the plus side of doing that is it raised the amp just enough to keep the ground wire from rubbing on the mount.

LL247 GREAT job man! I gave it a shot, but didn't feel like cutting anything! I never looked at the space above the lights like that! Oh well I put that amp in my cherokee & ordered a micro 2 for my 6.5's & a micro 4 to run my 8.8 lids, waiting patiently for lids! Awesome job!
