Another thing I just remembered about when I had them inside the pods... it leaves a pretty good gap between the speaker and the fairing that way. Once I saw it I took it all back apart again & put a ring of 3/8" adhesive backed weatherstripping around the speaker, made a nice tight seal. That probably helped some with the sound too.
