Default Installing Polk mm651

Hey guys. So I'm installing the Polk mm651 into my 14 street glide. So far I have counter sunk the holes in the speakers and used different screws. The speakers are mounted outside the pods. Now for the wiring.....

The speakers came with crossovers. They look like just basic crossovers with no switches on them for +3 treble like others have stated. In order to mount the crossovers is it necessary to cut the ends off the factory wire that is inside the pod connected to the speaker? It seems like I need to pull that wire out and cut the grommet open to run the 4 crossover wires through it. What is your guys experience with this?

The MM651's do not have the +3 option like the infinity kappa's.

What is the rest of your setup?

My experience has been to remove that plug from the enclosure and then pull wires out of the plug with a little muscle.

Awesome thanks for the reply. I was able to muscle the plug off. But there is no way the 4 crossover leads are going back through there to go into the speaker inside the pod. You must have to ream it out or cut it open? They will be paired to a pbr 300x2. I had planned on just cutting the factory ends off but wanted to see if that's what others were doing.

You could always mount the crossovers inside the pod to keep a clean looking install but that is your choice. I did reem the plug with a drill bit.

Thanks maybe I'll try that. So for the factory wires that used to plug into the speakers did you cut the ends off in order to run everything through the amp or should i leave them in place and add connectors in the amp lead side. Shouldn't really matter should it?

The '14 pods are going to be a tight fit trying to throw the crossovers in along with the speakers. They're a lot thinner compared to the older style pods, at least as far as I could tell when I poked around inside the '14 Limited I had.

I cut mine, and the crossovers were in the upper fairing. Six months later I had a stalk failure and made the switch to Infiniy's. I did like the way they sounded.

i attempted to mount the crossovers inside the pods and it killed the sound, the pods have little air space to begin with so mounting the x-over inside the pod takes up too much needed air space, I mounted mine next to the pods and zip tied them to the bracket, also use lots of polyfill inside the pod for way better sound. im running mine off a soundstream pn4.520d
