Road King Audio
Alright so I have done almost everything I want to my road king, but now its time to add some tunes to my ride. Got a quote for a local custom shop to set me up with fairing lowers painted with speaker pods, 6.5 hertz speakers, amp, wiring, assembly and everything I need to ride out of there bumping. He is saying $1200 for everything.
So I wanna know is this the best route to go because I ride with half helmet, apes and no windshield or fairing. So I need it to be loud. I brought up saddlebag speakers but he said unless I do double 6x9 I won't be able to hear it good, which he said is out of my spending budget I gave him. from what he is saying he is swearing on the fairing lowers with speakers because they are facing up towards me and promises I will be able to hear them no matter how fast I go. Just looking for some input on this.
Thanks

I am in the same boat. Had a Street Glide and really dont want a nother fairing bike.
The best I have come up with is what you are quoted. The fairing lowers look great on a RK and the 6.5's are going to sound better than a factory batwing bike...especially pushed by an amp. I do agree saddle bag speakers is a waste for while traveling.
I am just contemplating Factory HD lowers or Matazu or whatever and paint them.
I been pondering this since this time last year. This route is my decision, just have not put it in motion yet as I wanted to make sure I didn't want a fairing...but I don't as thats why my 07' FLHX got itself on the for sale lot.

My brother in law rolls with 1-6x9 (kicker) in each bag with 1 amp (alpine pdx) connected to an iPod (3mm jack) and it sounds great in the city. When he's on the freeway he just flips a switch and turns it off.
Looks completely stock until he flips that switch. I on the other hand, I went with a detachable fairing with a head unit, 2-Hertz 6.5" in the fairing, 1-6x9 (pioneer) in each bag and an Alpine amp. I can hear my tunes on the freeway up to about 90 mph then it gets a little windy.
I think the moral of the story is, speakers facing you is the way to go if you wanna hear your tunes at any speed
