He did the hard work figuring it all out in the first place. My measurements for the length of the rod were slightly different when everything was tightened up. I just used a dremel fiber cutoff wheel to cut off the excess.
I never ride w/out the bags now so instead of using acorn nuts I found some nuts at the hardware store that had rotating washers made on them. Like I said, the bags only come off to clean the rear of the bike.
I wonder how I rode all those years w/out them. I have some road survival stuff. Tool kit, mini air compressor, flashlight, spare earplugs, clear glasses for night, kickstand puck, etc. Still plenty of room for a jacket and all the stuff I used to cram ALL my pockets full of.

Why did you use that method over the QD hardware that comes with the bags?

I'm so used to having the bags and a place to put stuff, they never come off except to clean the bike.
