DK Customs - Did Harley OVERDO the Tech
#41
Face it. Potential new buyers of Harleys aren’t the old school carburetor and points guys. They are and will be those that want at the tech goodies. Even in this forum everyone bashes Harley fore not keeping up in technology, and then they criticize because their bikes are too complicated.

Ha ha…back to my Jag…it has the German ZF transmission, which is lubed for life. A friend of mine that is a certified premium vehicle technician asked how long I’d like the life to be.

foxtrapper,
"Jay Leno wrote a nice little article on this a few months ago for Hagarty.
Fundamentally, I agree.
A carburetor or radiator can be all but infinitely repaired and rebuilt.
But much electronics cannot. They can be replaced, but only if such parts can be found.
Hence why 100 year old stock model T's and such still run around.
A hundred years from now, you're not going to see stock Tesla's running around."
This is great, thanks.

YES, Harley is overdoing Tech but so is everything and everyone else. From cars to trucks to cell phones to TV's its all about what something will do but little thought as to how long it will do it?
Its the push to all things EV,
I hate the idea but I wonder if the plan is to one day have cars, trucks and motorcycles designed like our Smart Phones are now,
You buy one, use it a few years and trade it in when you crack a screen....
Planned obsolescence....
