It's pretty easy. Your going to need a few tools. 1/2" socket, swivel, 12" extension, T27 torx bit, ratchet and a small set of Allen wrenches. Remove seat first then you will find two bolts at the rear of the tank to remove. Then remove the dress piece in the center of the gas tank with the T27 bolt at the rear by the two bolts you just removed and a small allen head screw up from, then lift the dress piece. Now there are two small hoses to remove from the gas filler area of the tank. Once those are off there is a quick release for the fuel line and a set of wires from the fuel pump that run under the tank by the hose you just unhook to a plug, unplug it. There are two more bolts on the front of the tank, one on each side cover by a rubber cap on each. Remove the cap simply by pulling them off ans it doesn't take much force to get them off. Remove the last two bole from the front then lift the tank up and rearward as you remove it.

No need to disconnect the fuel pump and run the engine to purge the line?

Edit: I looked this up in the service manual and yes, purging the fuel line is a step to prepare for fuel tank removal.

No. There's a check valve that prevents the line from draining. Haven't done this on my SG yet (soon though since I'm installing a 2nd horn and might need to run additional wires in the wire trough), but on my '22 Road King I'd get a cc or two of fuel leak by. Not enough even need a clean up.

Got the tank removed and it pretty much is the same as the '23s on down with the exception of the fuel drain lines are now move to the front of the tank.

There is also a new Schrader Valve on the fuel supply line which helps drain left over fuel and eases the removal of the connector.

Not if the bike has been off for an hour or so, just remove the quick disconnect and your good to go. If you do not want to have a heavy tank you can use the valve to drain it but I do not drain them as it not all the heavy when its full.

By the way the fit and finish of these new 2024 model are so night and day compared to my previous 2021 RGS, especially the front fairing fits like an expensive leather glove, that gas tank fits & seats nicely on the frame, and the side panels and saddle bags fits so tightly and no loose parts to rattle or vibrate, so glad to own a 2024 MY bagger and a CVO/ST to boot...lol
