Is the Street Glide Now the Red-Headed Stepchild?

I think it’s the marketing. Harley is pushing the road glide. Street glide is always behind the road glide in they’re website photos with them together, the new enthusiast magazine I got in the mail after my purchase is almost entirely road glide related, Harley’s website emphasizes how the road glide is better handling than the street glide and the street glide is for the traditionalist. Then most of the custom bike companies prefer the road glide platform.
Here’s the thing about the handling, it’s a touring bike. I’ve never thought the performance bagger trend made any sense. Why race a bike with saddlebags around a track? That’s just dumb. In my opinion the street glide looks way better. I do like the bar position and adjustability better in the road glide so that’s nice.

I think the Street Glide looks fantastic and when I went to the dealer it was specifically to ride a new Street Glide in hopes of making a deal and taking it home. However the dealer was nefarious in their ways and had me on both a Road Glide and Street Glide back to back on the test ride and now I am on a Road Glide. I never expected to want to own one and wasn't really feeling it necessary to ride one but they suggested I give them both a try. The Road Glide for my height and inseam (5'8" 30") offered up better wind management stock to where buffeting was hardly noticeable and I could ride up to about 45 with visor open and above that to double the speed visor down without buffeting. Sadly the Street Glide out of the box just knocked my head all around even after toying with the vents and such. I do like the Street Glide bars better and have lowered my Road Glide bars quite a bit.
I guess I should not be surprised in my choice, I rode BMW RT and GT models for two decades and those are frame mounted fairings. Still think the Street Glide looks better but for me the Road Glide rides better.

Similar thing here. I replaced a 2015 K1600GT with a 2024 Road Glide. I did a long weekend rental before I made the choice. Super impressed with how the Road Glide bangs out the miles. I like the Street Glide looks better.. It was a case of function over form for me.

I have not rode one either. I keep telling the sales lady at my local Harley shop that I'd consider testing a Road Glide Police.

In theory, it is offerred. I have not seen one. I imagine that with the popularity of the Road Glides, an off lease police bike would sell quickly.
