Default Jiffy Stand - sliding and retracting

I have about 600miles on my RG and twice I felt that when I put the Jiffy Stand down that it wasn't secure and was going to let my bike fall over. New both instances I had pulled into a station to get gas and leaned in over onto the Jiffy stand. But the bike seemed like it want to move slightly forward, and that the Jiffy stand was retracting back. It felt as if I didn't grab the bike quickly it was going to fall over. I almost felt like the stand was not fully extended. I pressed the stand forward as far as it could but it sill felt like the stand was retracting and bike was rolling forward. The Wawa gas station concrete pad was level and in good shape. It was poured concrete. Possibly the concrete was slick for oil. I ended up moving the bike up a foot or so and turning the bars all the way to the let. It stayed, but I still pretty worried. When I park my bike in my level garage it feels pretty secure.

Has anyone else had an issue like this?

We’ve all had that feeling at one time ore another. The fact is that our jiffy stand, unlike most all of the others in the MC industry, have a locking feature that will not allow the Jiffy stand to retract. If you push the stand all the way forward with your foot and then allow the bike to lean over on it the lock engages. It often happens that the bike might roll forward a few inches before it hits that locking tab which is what you are feeling. Put the bike on a lift and take a look at how this works or have a friend sit on the bike and engage the jiffy stand while you look down there to see how it works. You will feel better about it but it will still cause you to still skip a heart beat every once in awhile.

If the bike is parked on a downward angle the jiffy stand will retract a little and then lock. Or even on a flat surface if the bike is pushed forward the jiffy stand will retract back a little before locking. This is how every Harley I’ve owned was. I have noticed on this new 24 it seems as if the jiffy stand i shorter and the bike is on much more of a lean when parked.

I concur with the previous replies. I'll just add that when I park and shut down my bike, I always make sure it's in gear. Then, before putting down the jiffy stand and with the clutch disengaged, I allow the bike to drift until it stops moving, either forward or backward. At that point the bike can no longer move due to the transmission having locked it into place so you can put down your jiffy stand and the bike won't move at all.

You'll get used to it. Learn to enjoy the horrified looks on the faces of onlookers rather than focusing on the bike moving. It's a treat.

Even today, I still question whether or not the jiffy stand is down and secure on my ‘18 Deluxe. It’s the same feeling on my ‘24 RG when dismounting.

Now, on my ‘20 Indian Chieftain DH, there’s never a question. The kick stand is always secure when in the down position.

What you described sounds normal to me. All my HD touring bikes have done the same. Just make sure the locking nut on top is on tight.

Same here.. Two Harleys, over four years, Road King and Road Glide. I've never felt comfortable putting the stand down and watching it slide back as I dismount. Hate the jiffy stand.

Just know that it is secure even though it doesn’t feel like it. Never had one tip over yet in 20 years
