Default DK Customs - Did Harley OVERDO the Tech

DK just put out a new video that is interesting. I have been concerned about long term issues, and resell for a few years regarding high tech vehicles, especially EV’s and now motorcycles.

This is an interesting video worth watching that does pose a lot of good questions.

I believe there will be such a demand for electronic parts for vehicles in the future that someone will find a way to remanufacture them. There should be no worry over patents etc when these vehicles get older.

Gadgets have a price and not just when the sales guy ramps up. Everything is over tech anymore.

Jay Leno wrote a nice little article on this a few months ago for Hagarty.
Fundamentally, I agree.
A carburetor or radiator can be all but infinitely repaired and rebuilt.
But much electronics cannot. They can be replaced, but only if such parts can be found.

Hence why 100 year old stock model T's and such still run around.
A hundred years from now, you're not going to see stock Tesla's running around.

Computers are good for engine management. But it is now too invasive in most vehicle aspects. I like my 2019 FLHTP!

So true. It is a reason that I’m not interested in a new Harley, a new truck or other vehicle. A vehicle is a tool and tools need to be reliable. All multilayer electronics are fragile, work on micro volts, so any tiny bit of corrosion, poor quality connector, board glitch or poor quality, extraneous electronic surges including microwave transmissions nearby tax the system. Now, ride it out of the Harley parking lot into the real world.

What was a useful advance in motorcycles has become an abomination.

Nice discussion of a real world issue. Hoping it will be okay is not good enough. It will be more that 15 years to develop reliable electronic and software vehicle system. I agree, by then current technology will be dead. Your new bike will be like a cassette, a floppy disk, a windows or IOS operating system. They are all short term tech solutions in search of a purpose. They don’t belong on a motorcycle or a vehicle that you depend on, daily, touring, or just going for a ride. It is not a necessity.

I think you are missing the point. The future is unknown for all makes and brands moving forward with what is high tech state of the art today, and obsolete tomorrow.

Glad to hear you found our content on the subject interesting.

A couple of weeks prior to our newest video, Kevin touches on a topic in relation to the newer, heavily tech influenced line up you may also find interesting.

Certainly raises a lot of great questions and perspectives on these changes HD has made or will make.

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.

Live for today. You can't take it with you. Don't buy a motorcycle/toy as a long-term investment.
