Understand going in, I am old. It's a MOTORCYCLE, It doesn't need to be a rolling computer. I ride mine to "get away from it all"., NOT to take it all with me. That is probably the main reason I have stuck with a Road King, not a rolling station wagon, boom box, navigator, and weather station. Anything beyond what is NEEDED to make it go and stop is a waste of time, money and weight.

For those who want all the platinum plated gadgets, I'm happy that you can get them, but DISTRACTIONS are dangerous on 2 wheels and on 4. The idea is to arrive alive, we need to pay attention to the primary task regardless of the type of vehicle. Multimode touch screens which REQUIRE EYES AWAY FROM THE ROAD have no business being installed in a moving vehicle.

My location: Luddite Central.

As a guy immersed in technology for his whole career... +1 on this ^^^

It's about the feel, smell, sound, etc. coming from the journey...

Harley is not even in the same universe as Toyota. Same for most all USA-based OEMs.

While Eastern culture adopted and embraced the work of W. Edwards Deming Western culture utterly turned its back on it.

How much money can we make in the next three to five years is all we care about... That and a lot of non-value-added DEI nonsense...

BINGO. My company is going through a restructuring and we just had a sit down with some VPs. I made this comment to them and they acted like “well, duh.”

For you it may be your way of breaking away from the rest of the world, to detach from all the tech in daily life. I suppose I have a slightly different outlook. I ride my bike daily. I commute as many miles on it as I do my car or truck. It gets me from point A to point B, with a few short trips each year.

There isn’t anything wrong with either of our experiences.

Music enhances my riding experience. I listen to music 8+ hours a day, whether I’m on the road, at my desk, in the gym, or doing stuff around the house. Sitting on a motorcycle makes no difference in regard listening to music. I also still hear the exhaust, feel the wind in my face, and feel the engine and road beneath me.

All these “distractions” are only distractions if you let them be (no different than any other vehicle). Am I fiddling with the IFCU while riding? Not really. I change songs, get directions, etc. while riding, sure. But it’s done with thumb controls that I don’t have to look at, or with voice commands. And that’s such a minuscule amount of time. Less than a minute on my 35 mile commute, if I even need to mess with it all. I’d spend more time and have my eyes further off the road trying to look at a map or list of directions in a pouch on my tank.

The amount of time I look at a 12” touchscreen is no more than the time I spent looking at analog gauges on my previous bikes. IDK WTH people can do on the IFCU to be distracted with; it’s not like you can text or read or watch videos on it. You can look at a map or select what music you want to listen to.
