He's a real gear head like most of us.....and many more toys than us.
I like him.

yeah, I have a story with Jay personally calling me (I have told it here ad nauseam over the years) about possibly buying Evel Knievel's Heritage that I bought from our dealership owner on the day Evel died..our dealership owner grew up with Evel in Montana and were good friends...Jay is super cool and down to earth

There is something to be said for technology ( I am so Old School ) that I still have a tach and dwell ) Fuel Injection sure has made it a more exact science in getting the tune right ... However the ever growing gadgetry is becoming quite cumbersome in my opinion ... More computers controlling the operation of the scooter ... Lean Angle, ABS, Hill Hold, etc ... Although I have never used or tried these features it seems to be taking over the operation of the scooter ... Then incorporate the big screen television with all the information constantly playing, providing distractions to the operator along with text messages, voice mail and weather information just seems to be overwhelming to me ... Maybe the adage IS true ... "You can't teach and old dog new tricks"

Imagine 3 over 60 mechanics taking a 2 week road trip in a 2024 gadget loaded Tundra, three reoccurring phrases the whole trip, what's that do, gimme the manual, how do I shut that off? Owners manual was getting a bit dog eared, 1 year of owning it I'm still finding another something or "feature" I've missed. I won't even look at a harley past the basic Road King series, I'd be a lost puppy.

An example regarding younger people and newer tech: My 22yo son is looking for his first bike to buy on his own (I co-signed on his first one, sold when he moved to AL). He prefers the classic aesthetic. He has a small budget and wants to pay cash which either means something like a new Royal Enfield or something used. Used likely means out of warranty, so he would work on it himself. The thought of spending a grand or more on some fancy TFT screen if it fails and needing to pay hundreds to a dealer just to "pair" it with the bike, for example, is not appealing to him. So it's either an inexpensive brand that's new with a warranty, or something older and lo-tech that is reliable and easy to work on. Harley doesn't offer anything in his budget, new or late-model used. This isn't Harley-bashing, the MoCo just doesn't target Gen Z.

In 1985 I bought a new Toyota SR5 pickup. I opted for the SR5 package because it had fuel injection as opposed to a carburetor. Fuel injection wasn’t new but was far from wide spread in automobiles but I saw the advantages.
You cannot imagine the grief and negative comments I got from coworkers and friends for choosing the FI engine. I drove that truck for 280,000 miles and it was running well when I sold it to a friends son. I replaced one fuel pump, three alternators, two water pumps, a starter and regular maintenance.
I am an analog gauge guy but bought a new 2024 Road Glide in May. So far so good. I tend to embrace technology, to be honest the flat screen is not what sold me on the bike. I do understand the risks of first year introduction, especially on a Harley Davidson. I’ll take my chances.
Somebody has to be the trailblazer.
