I see a lot of people posting here in the forums that they “went to the dealer to have the latest update installed.” Are people really paying $50 for the dealer to do these updates? I’ve seen other people state that the dealer does the updates as a warranty claim. I can’t get a straight answer.
Software updates have always been free for me.

I Went By HD Dealer Yesterday To see if my bike needed any updates They brought the bike in plugged it in I was good to go No Charge only took about 10 Min.I went to a Dealer 60 miles from my House. My local Dealer that I got My Bike from I had a Terrible 1K Service done there Then I asked about updates they said take to another dealer. There is a different staff there since I got My 18 RGS an they are terrible At Adirondack HD,What a difference at Spitzes HD might be 60 miles away but they treat you with respect an Know what they are doing.I will be traveling now But a Good Dealer Is Worth It!!

Adirondak HD was formerly Vans HD. Vans was a great place and the owners were very good (I worked for them at one point). It was sold to Utica HD (Division of Don's Ford). That's when things changed. I rarely stop at either location now.

Don't forget guys, flashes are as easy as putting a thumb drive in a laptop, then connecting to the inlet port on the bike. once connected properly, the updates are automatic

Yep. I was wondering about the latest update that can't be done at home.

@BrandonSmith Give your local/ preferred dealer a call and ask. Then you'll have the definitive answer for your situation. If your local/ preferred dealer says they charge for updates, then call around to a few more dealers and ask them, then you should have a pretty reasonable idea if updates are free or not.

My situation is my dealer does them for free.
