Default What’s Too Many Miles FXLRS

Like the title suggests, I’m wondering what people would consider too many miles on a M8 Softail, specifically a FXLRS.

I’ve done a ton of customization to my bike and concerned about the longevity of the bike. I’m gonna be averaging 10k a year and have no interest in ever getting rid of this bike. Eventually I’ll have a 2nd bike but that’s at least 2 years out.

M8 bikes are lasting quite a long time.
There's a guy on the forum here who has an M8 with 141K miles.
I've seen at least a handful more M8s with 125K miles
And quite a lot of 100k+

If you plan on keeping it, "what is too many miles?" Seems kind of irrelevant if you already know you're going to be putting on 10k miles a year. As long as you care for it with good maintenance and don't absolutely abuse it will last well past 100k miles. If later down the road it needs a top end rebuild, rebuild it. Even a complete rebuild isn't really expensive in the grand scheme of owning a bike, if you plan to keep it.

too many is never enough, if you love it...just start a motor build around the 50-60K mark, if you are that worried

Same as a Twin Cam…Top end should last 100K miles or more and the bottom end should last 2 top ends. If it is showing signs around the 100K mile mark, rebuild it. If not, ride it until it gets tired.

Harley Davidsons have been and continue to be completely rebuildable. No matter how many miles you put on it, if you want fix it you will be able to do it.

I had 223,000 miles on an Evo Softail (132,000 miles on the rebuilt motor at the time of the accident). It was running like new when it was wrecked. I expect nothing less from my M-8.

As long as it’s been taken care of there is no such thing

Thanks for all the feedback. I feel a bit better about the longevity of the bike. I’ll hopefully have a 2nd bike (road glide) by this time next year. Then most the miles will go on it. I don’t plan to do a ton of customization to that bike either.
