Default Transmission dipstick change

Well I just picked up my new 2022 heritage and I was going over all the oil levels checking to make sure all the fluids are at the correct level. In the past with my 2018 and 2020 softails checking the trans fluid was a real bitch as I could never see the fluid level on that damn chrome dipstick. Also I always had a difficult time getting the trans. dipstick to thread back in to the threads on the trans housing. Well I am pleased to say that on my new 2022 Softail Harley has changed to a black plastic trans dipstick. This does two things. Now I can actually see the fluid level on the dipstick. And now it is much easier to get the dipstick threaded in to the trans housing threads.
Thanks Harley!

Good. I dislike the dipstick on my 2018 Heritage for the reasons you cite above. Does the new dipstick also require a large Allen key to remove it?

Yes it still requires a large Allen key.

I wonder if the new dipsticks are compatible with older Softails? Might be a nice upgrade.

Not only that, you’ll probably save literally several grams of weight.

Which will translate to 0.002 MPG. Every little bit helps!

Well I'm here to tell ya that the new trans dipstick makes checking the trans as easy as checking the engine oil.

I lay the wet end of the dip stick on a paper towel, it darkens the towel where its wet.
