Default 2020 fxlrs oil leak after motor work

Ok so I just picked up my bike that I had a cam installed in. After riding for about 50ish miles, I noticed that oil is splashed all over cam side and all over the pipe and stuff. Some even got on my lower part of my seat so it was spraying in the wind. Sorry, I am not mechanical, but it appears as though the leak may be coming from under both tappet covers and leaking down all around the area. Any ideas? I already called the shop and going back tomorrow to have them look at it.

I had the following installed:
-Tman 216 cam
-Arlen Ness Big Sucker
-S&S precision tappets
-S&S lifter guides
-S&S adjustable push rods
-HD screaming eagle cam plate and oil pump
-PV Tune
I kept my S&S superstreet 2-1 (50 state legal) and actually like the sound now.
It ended up being 119 hp/127 tq. Once I get around to it, I will post the graph, but the bike is torquey as heck in all gears and sounds so much better than it did. Anyway, let me know ideas on the oil issue. Thanks.

Sounds like pushrod cover tube O-ring (s) not sealing, it can happen.
BTW, nice power results.

Hope it gets resolved quickly and easily for you.

So this is the point where I don't understand the "specialists/mechanics ( )" . Why the hell don't they do a test drive to see that everything works properly, such as that there are no leaks.I had a similar experience last year, not with one of my Harley's but with my Superduke. I bought this new last year, when I got home I saw a small leak, turned out to be a small crack in the engine cover. This was replaced under warranty at the same time as the first oil change. When I went to pick up the bike and after only 3 km of driving I stopped at a gas station to fill up. The oil dripped out of the oil filter cover, so I returned to the dealer and after checking it out, it turned out that the o-ring was not properly seated in the cover. This could easily have been prevented if the engine had been run for a while before delivery.

This is also why I hate dealers and so-called specialists, I normally do everything myself, but because the cover had to be replaced under warranty by an authorized dealer, I couldn't do it myself. I wanted to make it easy on myself and let them do the first oil change at the same time. So this was the first and last time I've ever done this, have bought many new Harley's and other brands, I never go to a dealer for service, not even the first one.

Keep us posted what the problem was on your bike please.

Thanks, I hope it does to. This is the reason I dreaded taking my bike for any upgrades or services outside of warranty because something will always be wrong. I just hope this shop takes care of the issue as it was not there before they did the work. I am hopeful it's just a simple issue that gets resolved right away. Update to follow.

It's pretty easy for an o-ring or gasket to get skewed during installation, but that's no excuse for delivering it to the customer with an oil leak.

It really can only be a couple things leaking, given the work you had done.

1. Pushrod Tubes - there are 3 o-rings per tube (top, middle, bottom). Sometimes the top o-rings remain in the head, and if they forgot to remove them before installing new ones, that will be an issue.
2 - Tappet Cover Gaskets - They could have forgotten to remove the old gaskets if they we're stuck on the tappet covers, or they could have forgotten to install the new gaskets entirely. Or maybe the covers aren't tightened down, but I would hope that's not the case.
3. Cam Chest Cover Gasket - see #2.

Keep us posted, I'm sure they'll get you squared away.

Thanks guys!!! When I dropped off the bike, they seemed pretty confident they knew it was not a huge issue. We shall see. They seem like really good guys and a good shop so I am sure it is something super simple.

So it was an o ring on the exhaust pushrod that was not sealing. They fixed it quickly and does not seem to be an issue any longer. Thanks for all the knowledge guys... each one of you were pretty spot on in your diagnosis.
