Default What is with all the battery failures?

My Heritage original battery died at 2 year's. So did a lot of other people's. Now, the replacement is dead at 2 year's. I religiously keep the battery charged and in the past have always gotten over 5 years out of them. Just bad luck, something with the bike or quality gone to hell?

Could be the charger/tender. If it's a non brand name or older model it could be under or over charging.
After years of religiously pulling in every time I rolled in the garage I changed to a once a week charge. It's only on the charger a day or less. If I'm around as soon as I see the tender light go green it's unplugged.

I still have the OEM battery in my Sport Glide ...three years old. The only time it goes on the tender is when I park it in the barn January thru March. I ride very regularly March thru December. Maybe that makes a difference?

I got 3.5 years out of my OEM battery, but I don't think my OEM replacement is going to follow suit. There are signs that failure may be imminent.

I have my Tri Glide on a battery tender on a timer. It charges every morning from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m.. So far three and a half years on the original battery.

If you are using your bike regularly, there is no need for a battery tender at all...let the alternator do the work it was intended to do. Your battery will love you for it.

I have t hear of a systemic issue with premature battery failure. I recently replaced my original battery in my ‘17 Limited, testa was still going strong, based upon time. I replace all vehicle batteries after 4 years, before they fail…as they always will eventually fail.

Depending on circumstances of course.

I am on my 3rd BMW. The first I got rid of after 10 years and it still had the original battery that never let me down. The next car I only had a couple for years but all in the battery was 6 years old. My current car is now 6 years old with the original battery.

My bike battery is now in its 5th winter.
