Default Hard Bags on a Heritage

Has anyone done a hard saddle bag conversion on a Heritage. Looking at Hog Works hard bags. Any pictures would be great. Thanks

Don't those things come with hard "leather" bags on the 2018 up models?

Check out this post from the 'Everything 2018+ Softail' thread, post #1918 https://www.hdforums.com/forum/2018-...l#post18707417

I messaged Hardcase61 and he sent me the part numbers for the bags, mounting brackets, and misc. parts. Please note the brackets are not an "exact fit" and you may need to do some slight modifications. Feel free to message him. He was very responsive and quite helpful.

That said, I am not very mechanically inclined, so I am going to check with a local (non-Harley), custom motorcycle shop and see what they have any ideas. Note: I also did some limited research and if you have a vivid black bike, then you are in luck with finding bags. If you need them painted, then it gets a bit more tricky.

Personally I hate the "chiclet" style "leather" bags but I have thousands of dollars of upgrades on my 'New Bike Modification' list. I don't even have the bike yet! I am looking at the all-chrome 114 in the spring.

Lastly, you might find this interesting. I found this https://www.cycletrader.com/listing/...STC-5015661025 The bags were done custom by an amazing leather guy in Rockville MD.

No matter what you decide be prepared to be into it for about $600-$900 or more.

Peace

Yes, I read some of the notices on the various hard-bag-conversion vendor websites. They all seem to note that the top of the pipe needs to be no higher than the rear axel. 2 into 1 seems like a great way to go to solve that problem. You could also do stretched on one side and regular on the other. Again that limits your choices especially with glass black painted vs ready-for-paint. More "forgiving" than a car, but not all black paint is the same.

If you are out of warranty or ok with waiting, you could do a curved exhaust like a V&H Radius. Those are generally full exhausts not just slips ons.

I see where Cycle Visions now makes the kit. I know theirs is the best
for the 17 & prior (But yes, you'll have to change exh)

Harley should jump on the band wagon on this. Those bags that come
on the 18 & newer are small inside. Just compared to mine.
Even Switchback bags would be better. There are pictures of a black
Fatboy somewhere on this forum done that way. (With a fairing)
It looks SWEET. Even SB bags hold more than 17 & older Heritage bags.

Do they lock? Are they waterproof?

I think the “grained” trim MIGHT be leather, but the rest of the coveting is gen-yew-wine simulated Naugahyde.

Harley-Davidson had to switch to this material since the wild Naugas were added to the endangered species list.
