2018 Fatboy tire wear seems excessive
#11
Does anyone knows how to solve or the cause of this excessive front tire wear? On my fatboy 114 2019, I´ve a similar problem and always the right side of the tire comes with excessive wear. HD already changed on warranty the front tire, but It had started again and now with a new problem.. excessive front brake vibration.
If you search other threads around the same age as this one you will find plenty of comments on similar issues, people adding weights to one side of the bike etc. to try and fix. None really solve the issue.
They are hard on tires, especially on the right. I just live with it because I love the bike.

I have a 2020 Fatboy, the Anniversary version.
I replaced the front tire at 7,200 miles due to wear, that was primarily on the right side.
I did read somewhere that using a higher PSI solves a bit of this issue. So instead of setting the front PSI to 36, I raised it to 38 PSI.
On my new set of tires, same OEM brand, I have about 5,000 miles on it (12,000 on the Odometer), and have noted only a little wear on the front tire, so maybe the higher PSI works.

I am running the front at 40 and the rear at 42 and they ride/handle fine - time will tell about the wear. I recently sold a Road Glide with a 180 fatty front and the guy I bought it from told me about running it at 40 and it helped with turn-in, etc., and my Fat Boy is the same.

About the wear on the right side, I´ve seen several post about it, but none have convince me about the real problem and how to solve it. But what really concern me is about the front brake vibration. So the tire wear is a cause of something and seems that other components are having excessive wear as well..

I was pretty convinced that the wear was due to a combination of a few factors: offset tires, weight distribution, and road inclination. But that’s just a guess.

Unfortunately, the 160/60-18 is an oddball size and nobody makes a front other than the Michelin Scorcher and the Metzeler Cruisetec. Having no other options really pissed me off and was one of the reasons I got rid of my Fatboy.
