Clutch safety switch repair 2018-2020 softail
Hey everyone, today my clutch safety neutral switch seems to be not engaging and not allowing start while pulled in gear. I can shim it and I’ve also used my finger to push it all the way in. My thoughts are it’s 1) dirty not allowing the clutch lever to fully engage. 2) I have too much up and down play on the lever and has caused it to shave the switch to a point where it no longer contacts.
i know the switch works because I’ve put a shim of cardboard between in and tested it by pulling the lever.
It’s a hydraulic clutch and I have almost zero experience adjusting clutch play on the lever setting.
other than that the clutch engages fine. I’m almost at a 5k mile service point but have had to ride in a rain a few times so my thought is rust or grout from dust and grease.
I’ll update if I manage to fix, any advice is appreciated.

thanks for the assurance. I’m like 99% sure it didn’t have a play value like my sportster, I’m sure they’ll cover it, a housing is like $150 so I hope it would be covered. But if it’s something as easy as cleaning it out I’d assume it would save me time and not having the bike in the shop. I’ll give them a call thanks.

yes it is. I believe the attachment below shows how a recall for service. I can’t bring it in today but ended up fixing it. I made a video and it’s mostly if your in a bind. Meaning minimal tools maybe not near a dearlership. Basically I think because I had washed my bike yesterday and it has been raining on in off. Not really been in bad rain yet but enough to where the spring probably got messed up. I ran some lubricant after removing the top housing and cycled the clutch a few times. This achieved the result I wanted but will call and schedule a replacement ASAP.
