Default Saddle Bag Bolts Issue

I've taken my saddle bags on and off 2-3 times and every time I put the bolts back on they get harder and harder to tighten. I even replaced the Torx head bolts with grade 8 hex head bolts....I believe they were 3/8 x 2.5". The bolts are almost impossible to tighten they are so tight. I thought I might have stripped a thread, but it's like that on all 4 bolts and I know I didn't accidentally strip 4 bolts and the threads still look ok. The only thing I can think of is a build up of blue Loctite, but only after 2-3 times? I only use a drop. They are back on, but I'm worried about taking them off in the future.

Has anyone else had an issue like this? Does anyone know if what they screw into can be replaced or is it a part of the fender support brackets? I'm at a loss to what could have happened?

I run a tap through mine every once in a while when they won't thread in easly. The fender brackets are replaceable on mine but haven't checked on their availability.

Can you put 1/4 turn clip or dzus fasteners in their place? Or find out the thread pitch and size and run a tap or thread cleaner through them.

Probably threadlock buildup. Harley uses some tough stuff on some of their bolts. Can also try using a small straight brush with some acetone to clean out the bolt next time you have the bags off. And the bolt piece (metal strip with two bolts) should be able push out the back side of the fender. If you take it out, can also use heat or stronger solvents.

Why are you using Loctite every time? I’ve been riding Harleys for over 30 years and almost never use Loctite and have never had a problem. IMO Harley-Davidson has gone overboard with the stuff on the new bikes.
