I bought a flush fit cap on Ebay - real cheap but looked good. It was a better funnel into the tank than a gas cap. Didn't end up using it. Prolly gonna have to pay a few bucks for a decent one.

Was looking into getting one for my FXDL-S, but another owner said he didn't like it b/c (1) LEDs were hard to read in daytime & (2) water got underneath when washing bike. Decided to keep my stockers.

Figures. That's what I need. Also, does the trim ring come right off with a lil heat from dryer, heatgun, etc?

This is not trivial - if you place it on on top of the pump and it falls off, it might come apart and break one of the plastic tabs that hold the assembly together. If this happens, you will have a full gas tank and have to stuff a rag or something into the filling side and ride that way until you can find some temporary fix. if you are in an isolated ares, that can means 50 mile or more riding a high priced Molotoff cocktail.

True story - my 2007 SE Road King Classic enroute to Sturgis through West Texas in 2008. $30,000 mororcyle riding in West Texas with a shop rag for a gas cap.

Use some of your Duct Tape stash that you are always suppose to have with you. Tape over the opening instead of using a rag. Oh Oh oh, just roll some duct tape in reverse and make a sticky wad to hold your gas cap on your tank or handle bars. Winter is here.

I was looking for a set of flush mounted gas caps over the summer. The last I heard was that they haven’t made a set for the 2018 models yet. The issue was the left side false cap.

I had duct tape and considered it, but didn't use it because of the silver paint highlighting of the CVO. These push down cps with LEDs were/are pieces of junk IMO. I have stayed away from them since.

Thanks

Things like this for looks I just stay away from now, some things are best left stock for simplicity and reliability's sake in my opinion; they all look good but seem to have a "BUT" caveat~

Yes, but these gas recessed caps were stock on the CVO Road King. I am more "function over form" now. Much of the extra cost for CVO models is apperance. I have owned several in the past, but now ride a 2018 Heritage 107 that suits me just fine with minor upgrades.

Interestingly enough, stock gas caps are still problematic because of rattling.

I’ve had the flush caps/electronic fuel gauge kits on 3 past bikes over the years and never had a problem with them. Since the Softail doesn’t have a fuel gauge on the left, like many models, I did a little fabrication to make it work. (I like the look) I detail it here.

They have been 100% reliable for me. Maybe I’m just lucky. Or careful.
