Finally got a chance to ride the mf'er! Rode to cemetary to visit with Pops, ran into a buddy that's a BMW freak, and did ALOT of backroad sightseeing. This dude has a bunch of these bikes, drug this 65 500cc out of his dining room today to get the cobwebs out. Lol.
WTF is that seat on the back.
That's like a mini horse saddle.
You gotta explain this bike.

Wasn't sure anyone be interested. I'm not really, but appreciate his restos. He's a beemer freak. Former Indian freak, but has an old sporty, 70something, and an 03 RK he's temporarily quit riding cuz it needs a rusty header replaced and needs tensioners looked at. Prolly has a dozen BMWs restored, and others. He's bought and sold worldwide. He hired into maintenance with me about a year ago at my plant.
All I can tell you is this bike is 1965, 500cc. They have a strange front suspension. The rear seat is they way they were. He had his hg with him and lived this bike cuz it's geared for a sidecar Wish I woulda took some more pics of the details now. He says he likes them because " they're a gentleman's bike with a driveshaft" lol. I guess the opposed twin is very smooth. He's got a red one just like it. He got alot of resto work done while we were out on covid layoff. The rear fender is hinged too. What fore idk. 6 gallon tank. The front and rear signals are all one on each end of the handlebars Strange bikes.

I have never seen a seat like that, but, given the rest of the resto, imagine it was an option. The rear fender is hinged to make it easy to get the rear tire off for repairs.

It's called an Earles fork - a type of "leading link" suspension. Getting hard to find old Beemers with these. Don't perform better, but they do look very cool/antique. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorcycle_fork#Earles The Honda Cub series scooters used a leading link too, but it's built so compactly that it's hard to see.
