What is the advantage of the 260 besides looks?? Any disadvantages or fitment issues? Curious minds want to know

 

I had wierd tire wear on my 2021 Fatboy. This December, I had 9,140 miles on it., it was bald on the right side, but center had plenty of tread, right side like new. I was sure it was suspension, but dealer said nothing wrong. After doing some Googeling, there are lots with the same problem, and a couple Youtubes on it. Apparently its a tire problem. I had them put a new tire on, the dealer had the original Michelon Scorcher, and said there would be a wait for any other brand, so I went with it.

January my back tire was getting bald, wear bars almost gone. This time I took it to an Indy and had a Metzler 888 put on. It had 10,954 miles on it.

I now have over 13,000 miles on. The front is wearing normally, the origianl must have been a bad run. I have had numerous bikes in my over 50 years of riding, at one time I had five bikes. This is the first time my back tire outlasted my front.

Both these replacement tires are wearing normally.

Metzer doesn't make an 888 in the front size, but they make it in a Cruisetec , that is what I will go with next time I need a front.

 

9,000 miles on a Scorcher is really good. Then 10,954 on another Scorcher? Do you ride in a straight line and weigh 100lbs?

Never heard of an issue with the way that the Scorcher wears.

 

Really curious about the look, but more so in the ride.

 

Straight line? According to the wear, I put all the miles going around in a clockwise circle. As I said above, must have been a bad run of tires. Not complaining at all about how many mile I got out of it, just how it wore. You can see there is still tread down the middle.

 

I’ll post pics after I get it installed and also what the ride is like.

FWIW I couldn’t pass up the deal on the 260 which I got on Revzilla. Paid half of what they are selling for now and 61% off the MSRP price. So that played into my decision a little too. 😂

 

Haven’t heard of any fitment issues. Everyone who’s done it which I’ve read about and even one of the guys I ride with regularly, who now has a 22 RG ST, have said it fit fine.

I’ve seen posts of guys getting 280s on the back with no mods needed mounted to the factory wheel (can check out the FB 2018 HD Fat Boy 114 group)…but I think that is a little too much for me.

Handling, the tire is more convex on the oem rim than the 240 and this makes it a little easier to turn. You should know that a 260 on the stock rim will only reach 245mm and not 260, the same with the 280,
wich will not reach 280mm on the stock rim either. I don't know how much exactly, I've never had a 280 myself, but I've had several 260 tires, first on my Breakout and now on the Fat Boy.

 

I'd try a 260 if bridgestone made an H50 18inch in 260.
The H50 Battlecruise tires are the best nonslick tires for Harleys for acceleration and grip.
Moonshine HD runs them on their bikes they take to the drag strip because they're the best gripping tire most of us can get that's not a drag/track slick.
I like these Brigestone Tires a lot, but It'd be interesting to try a Metzler 150/70 R18 Tourance NEXT front with a Metzler 260/40 R18 Cruisetec Rear.
