I'm in love with the look if this bike and don't see why it couldn't double as tourer with the right extras but I'd like to know if anyone's done it here and think its a good idea or should I just get the Heritage and save my self some pain. Is the stock seat a throw away or is it viable for 500 miles in a day? Also I've watched a lot of youtube reviews complaining about the fat tire handling but its always from guys doing test rides and not anyone who's actually owned the bike long term. Has anyone here "mastered" the fat tires and got it cornering and handling the way they'd like or all the test riders correct in saying its poor handling? Any advice from experienced owners would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers and ride safe!
First upgrade the seat. The stock seat ins't comfortable for the long haul. I went with the Sundowner seat and its much improved. I also switched out my floor boards for Sport Glide pegs for more ground clearance because the floor boards are too low. Now I can get the bike to lean a lot more because I have more clearance. Now the tires are thicker but it will lay over in a curve. I'm a bigger guy 5'11" 275 so its not bad for me but if you are a smaller guy it could be more work. It will get over and its fun but you have to learn where the sweet spot is. I feel like that bigger tire allows me to to get over more comfortable but you really have to plan your line for very tight cornering. Trail braking is very helpful as well. All in all I enjoy my fatty for long hauls and some twisties but I'm sure a heritage could be a little more comfortable just because of the nature of this fatboy being more of a muscle bike. So to answer your question it is doable on a fatboy if you change a few things but a stock fatboy isn't exactly what you need for what you are describe in my opinion.

The handling is somewhat different, but with miles ridden it will become your norm.

If you outfit the bike to be a touring bike will it still have that look that you're now captured by?

Without a fender extension, (eg license plate holder), that back tire is going to coat you with water and mud each time you hit rain. Hitting rain is something you'll be hard pressed to avoid if you're touring with the bike.

All that said, given my use and riding style my FB is a great bike for me.

Good luck with your choice!

Some beautiful fat boys on this thread! I had a hard time choosing between a fat bob and a fat boy. I ended up getting the Bob but still am drooling over some of these bikes on this thread.

Thanks, HD parts cost yes even more so here in UK, but try to be frugal/re-cycle lol
All stock parts painted black as required
Mirrors V-Rod knock offs, great quality (maybe original supplier?)
Garmin mount etc from my previous Fatty
Air box/K&N 1717 from my RGS with 114 emblem fitted, also black heel shifter flipped
Cobra USA 6475B 2-1 25% off in US cheap shipping! (footpeg mount too low)
Other HD parts @ 20%, grips, crash bar, risers

What year was your RGS that you took the airbox from? Was it originally black? Does it stick out farther than the FB 114 airbox?

Altogether you've come up with a bike that looks stock and yet custom at the same time.

18 RG special yes comes black, chrome on 17 up RG, loads fs on ebay

Bolts straight up, does not stick out farther as tapers in at back
Done it cos i prefer the look & it shields the TBW connector better from the elements, cheap external breather mod option too

Thanks!

When I was shopping for my bike I actually preferred the look of the 107 airbox over the 114 on the FB. But I wanted a 114. It has since grown on me, but who doesn't like putting their own personal touches on their bike? I sure do. I'll check out ebay, thanks again.

Just make sure you get the black metal mount bracket included that the breather bolts pass thro, as it acts as a spacer between back of airbox & head iirc
