Installed black heat shields today. Not much riding, too much snow (DAMMIT!) left over from the way too early snow yesterday...

Really like them. The chrome shields were a bit too much IMO, with the 2 pipes. If it was a 2:1 maybe not so much, but it felt like a bit too much chrome for me. The black evens out the bike nicely.

How do you compare the handling between the FXR and the FXLR?

I think the new softail frame is fantastic. My old Dyna buddies would kill me for saying so, but it’s a big improvement over the last Dyna’s. That said, the FXR is the best frame Harley ever made, and probably, very slightly, edges ahead of the softail. However it’s also about 100 lbs lighter so that makes a big difference. So in the end, the FXR still wins the handling race.

Interesting. Have you ridden the Fat Bob? I wonder if that decreased rake would edge the FXR out.

No, I really won't entertain a performance oriented bike with forwards only (no option for mids). I just don't like them, and no way would I think you could whip a bike around with them as well as with mids. But that's just me. And that's why I never tried it. Plus I think it looks goofy. Again, just my preferences, no offense to the ppl that love them.

Plus you'll still need to deal with that extra 100lbs...

I agree 100% with you ,, although I haven't test rode the fxr I cant see how a person riding that bike with forward control,is going to handle that bike to its full potential. but in the end its all on the rider.i can proably smoke smoke someone on a fxr , with my fxlr , and probably smoke some one with me riding the fxr , and they a fxlr .
