Has anyone had experiences with the auto primary chain tensioner continuing to rachete tighter causing major damage and total gearbox failure. A friend has his 2009 SG is in at the dealer for a new transmission for this reason. Bike has done 40000 easy miles. Dealer said it is an issue for all twin cam bikes right up to 2015.

 

Yes. Same thing happened to me at 18500 miles. Covered under warranty. Dealer said it was caused by compensator. This was during the period of many changes to the comp. Don't remember exactly how many comps I've had but at least four. During this time I paid to replace the wear shoe on the chain tensioner...maintenance item...not covered by warranty. Now have 55000 miles and no problems. I personally believe the tensioner was a major contributing factor.

I believe it was the demise of my inner primary bearing failure on my 07... I have a Hayden tensioner now.

 

2010 EGC. Stage 1 ac, pipes
