Default SGS Lower Fairings

Does adding lowers to a Streetglide actually help out with buffeting. I found a set for a decent price and was thinking about trying them. Thought I would ask here before purchasing.

Thanks

I don't think lowers would effect buffeting at all. That being said, I have near zero buffeting on my SGS. Maybe you need a taller windshield?

Perhaps. However, I have a 6.5" Klockwerks Flare on there now and it did help out a lot. Wife is still complaining about the excessive buffeting.

The fork mounted (fangs) wind deflectors worked best for me. I'm running lower fairings also. As a test I removed the fangs with the lowers in place. That lasted until I could get home and reinstall the fangs. My issue is "beard lift" and the fangs keep my beard from beating on my glasses. And, no, I never considered trimming my beard.

How tall are you and what is your average hwy speed? Im 6' and have tried 3 different windshields and the fangs. In stock form my glasses would shake so bad at 80mph that it would either give me a headache or was dangerous because I couldn't see clearly. The best combo I've had was the Klock Werks 8.5" flare with fangs. But it's hot in Texas and I hated the look of the fangs and the increased heat I felt with them. The fangs work great and I too was considering the lower fairings to replace the function of the fangs.

Lowers don't help the buffet on my 09 SG. They are nice on cold days and long rides and I personally like the looks.

Webo,
I am 5'11" and typically ride in the 70-75 mph range. Maybe I need to try a windshield from one the new Ultra's.

Try the soft lowers for much less money. I take em off in the summer.

They "might" reduce buffeting, but many variables. Your height, windshield height, torso height, if you have fairing wings, fangs etc.

I feel they are a "must have"...... where else do you put the extra speakers!

Had to put a set on the wife's, she likes the extra storage for small items. She didn't want a windshield bag on this bike.

I tried a couple of different things too (including different windshields, helmets and soft lowers). I found the fangs to be the most effective.
