Default 5000 mile service - How long does it actually take?

It took my bike to the local stealer for a 5000 mile service. I would have had it done by an independent but I had coupon that lessened the pain somewhat.

The stealer charged for three hours labour, the oil and filter and $25 for shop consumables (grease and rags I presume)

While I was waiting I amused myself by wondering how much the MoCo would allow if this was a warranty item. I can't for the life of me see how and oil change and a few checks can take more than and hour and half max.

What do you guys think?

A 5000 is a simple service, mostly fluid changes and some inspections. When I worked at a Harley Dealership in the service dept, we allowed 1.5 hours for a 5000, the 10K was 2.5 hours since it is much more detailed

I agree

I did have a $100 coupon for service given to me when I bought the bike so it did lessen the pain a little

I remember just about sh#tting my pants getting the bill for my first service at 1600km on my '04 Heritage. Over $150 for essentially an oil change. Bought a service manual and dug in. I do all routine maintenance; fluids, brakes etc. No argument can convince me that the dealership is worth that kind of money. If you are unable/unwilling to do these sort of things, find a trusted independent fast, or harvest the money tree.
