Default Rough Shift Rushmore

Ya might recall my earlier posts about the (rough) shifting characteristics of my Limited. It's pretty normal but I know it can be better because I got the 2005 FLHRC to shift like a Honda (well, maybe not that smooth...LOL). But there is still this great controversy about switching lubricants...

Well, I did it and I'll be the guinea pig. I drained both holes and put in Redline V-Twin primary and Redline V-Twin Shockproof in the transmission.

Results so far...After a 100 mile run yesterday the shifting is noticeably smoother with reduced clunk but not eliminated.

Finding neutral is very easy...I mean very easy. Most of the time you don't even have to "Blip" the throttle. This is obviously because of the viscosity of the fluid. It has the appearance of ATF but it's not. Clicking into gear when cold and rocking with the clutch pulled in absolutely confirms there is better disengagement of the plates.

I decided "**** it"... and I'm gonna try it because that CLUNK is gonna trash the shift dogs if I don't do something...let's just hope it's not at the expense of the compensator.

GRADE:
7.5 out of 10 for Redline
4 out of 10 for Formula+

I found the same to be true with Mobil 1 75/140.

I'm due for my 5k service. Maybe I'll try the Redline Primary, if I can find it.

I am otherwise satisfied for now with Amsoil SevereGear in the transmission.

After the initial break-in I switched to Syn3 in all three holes. No real issues however I recently changed two of the three. Kept Syn3 in crankcase but now run Formula+ in primary and tranny and is a noticeable difference, quieter and smoother.

I don't think I would run Formula+ in the transmission... Some dealers recommend it, but since it is a gear box, I would look to a gear oil.

I know they also recommend Syn3 in all 3 holes, but the engine, transmission and primary are all different, and have different lubrication demands.

Yeah, probably in agreement on that one and most likely will change to Amsoil or Redline for the tranny, seems most everyone is pretty satisfied with those two.

I ran the Bell Ray in my soft tail and loved it,
As for my 14' I'm currently running Schaffers trans fluid and motor oil, AMS in the primary.

Next oil change I'm putting Schaffers in the primary, now that they have primary fluid available.

I had the dealer put in Bel Ray at the 1000 mile service on my 2014 Ultra, and it made neutral easier to find and reduced the 1st gear (straight cut) whine. I'll probably go with severe duty next change.
