Let's not bring reason and facts into the discussion...

It's pretty scary. I always check 3-4 times after putting the stand down to see if it's locked & give the bike a couple a light shoves to see if anything looks like it might give before leaving the bike.

I work with some psychiatrists in my job. With all this paranoia about jiffy stands I'm thinking I might be able to get one of them to write up a diagnosis and treatment plan for those afflicted.c

I park in gear 90% of the time, especially after my husbands bike rolled forward off the stand. I will let it roll to the stop when its in gear before I put it down on tnestand.

the stand is bullet proof, not idiot proof.

Even I have those momentary issues when letting her over on a downward slope; but I defer to statistics and relax, as she settles into the lean I just put her to.

If you're parked on a slope and feel the the bike might walk then put the bike in first and turn the engine off.

I nearly lost my bike once relying fully on the jiffy stand. It seemed secure but when I came back to it and fired up the engine it started to move backward down the slope I was parked on.

Now, if there's any doubt in my mind I park it in gear.

I've not tried shooting at it and perhaps I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed... but simply pulling out of a driveway caused the spring to get smashed against the frame. This wasn't a high curb or really anything out of the ordinary. It should not be that easy to lose the stand.

A month or so ago I read a post where someone recommended keeping an extra spring on the bike. Now I see why & have a spare in the tourpak. In that thread someone also shared the idea of preloading the spring with washers to make a field repair much easier.

Smile A lot more play... IMHO

Been around motorcycles and Harley's for a lonnnnng time.

My new Rushmore limited does seem to have more "play" in the stand then my FLSTC (08) and the '11 TK I just traded for the new TK.

So much so I asked about it when I took it in for the 1000 mile service I asked for it to be checked....it was within standards! So I think that it is a new "feature" of the Rushmore we were not aware of!

Check your lock tab bolt, mine was loose, make it part of your fastener checks.
