Default Amsoil 75-140 Trans Oil ... ?

Hey... An older friend of mine gave me a box of oils & various fluids including several bottles of Amsoil 75-140 Severe Gear Trans oil.

Im sure its good stuff but just seeing what you guys have to say about it...I've never used it.

Im a long time user of Redline Shock Proof but if the Amsoil is just as good, no need to spend extra money if I dont have too.

Need to change the trans fluid in my 14 SGS soon.

Thanks

I use it, I made the switch from red line a few years ago. I like both but the redline was so thick you can't get it all out during fluid changes.

Under NO circumstances should you put that **** in your bike's tranny! It is pure crap, will void your warranty, and will cause your gears to seize. PM me, and I will give you an address to send it to for proper disposal. *grins*

Default Iwouldnt

I wouldn't use it...
I will buy it also!!!!

That's my choice and I will be using it on change next week. On my 09 it made that bike shift like butter, This 2014 already shifts smooth so I am curious what severe gear will do?

Default gear oil

This is my first HD, 2014 Ultra. Rode metrics for 40 years and just came off a gold wing. Getting past the clunck when shifting was a process but that's HD. Reading over oil threads a lot of people use mobil 1 synthetic in all 3 holes. But severe gear oil in the tranny is better? I spent big bucks on this bike so I damn sure will not skimp on fluids. I can use a synthetic severe gear oil in the tranny...but that will void the warranty if I don't use only HD oil...grins. thanks guys. I am going to something better for the tranny.

Sitting here reading this thread and thinking about the "clunk" when dropping the tranny into first from neutral. Many people think the clunk is from the tranny, but isn't it actually from the compensator in the primary?????

Thanks for the info... I decided to risk the total explosion of my trans, voiding my warranty & feeling the rath of HD & Im going to put the Amsoil 75-140 in this weekend. Living dangerously is fun....

In reality.... Im sure theres little difference in all of the good named gear oils available be it for a car trans or motorcycle. As long as it is the correct weight, it will work. Between the marketing hype & others personal preferencecs/loyality to a brand, sometimes the real info is difficult to wade through. Since I have never used the Amsoil, just thought Id ask.

The famous HD trans "clunk" has been around for as long as I remember & that goes back to Pans w/ 4 speeds. Even when it was a Chopper w/ a direct drive belt the clunk was still there. Part of the HD "personality" that comes with the bike....
