My wife experiences pretty bad buffeting and 60+ on windy days. When we slow down to about 50mph most of it goes away. She said it feels like she is being lifted out of the seat and is very frightening. Any ideas or possible solutions?
My wife is getting a lot of buffeting too. I told her that someone needs to design a wind deflector that mounts on top of my helmet....LOL. Maybe it would shoot the air over her head. I'm experimenting with different windshields. I am trying to find the tallest one possible that I can still see over the top.
My wife complained of her head getting whipped around by the wind on my 14 Limited. Didn't have that issue on my 12 Limited. Replaced the windshield with an 11" LRS Ultra windshield that it's curved at the top. My wife said it eliminated the issue for her. I would start getting some butteting at 60mph with the stock shield, with the LRS I don't have any buffeting even at 80 mph unless there's a strong side wind.
Thanks Greg2012FLHTK. The stock windshield is 11" on my trike. Did you increase the height of your windshield or just use a curved one?
The stock windshield Is 10" on the 14 Limited. It was 12" on the 12 Limited. Harley measures from the top of the fairing. LRS measures from the center screw. So the 11" LRS is actually only 1/2" taller then the 10" stock windshield. LRS claims the recurve at the top of the windshield forces the air up giving the effect of a 3" taller windshield. Dont know if it makes that big of a difference, but it solved the issue for my wife. The LRS website http://www.longrideshields.com/default.asp tell's you how to measure to determine what height windshield yo need. Following thier directions I determined I needed the 11". It works perfect for me. I can still see over it and it eliminated the buffeting issue for my wife and I.
My wife experienced the same issue on our '14 Limited. She did not notice it on our '12 Ultra. Just replaced the 10" windshield with a HD 12" - same size that our '12 had. So far she hasn't noticed the buffeting near as much. Seems to work better for me too.
