Last time I had oil changed at the Dealer.I checked the oil cold and it was at the full mark.I asked the Service Manager why?He said that the level from hot to cold is negligible. So I checked it hot,and He is right.Sorry if this starts another debate, but My experience is that the level does not change from hot to cold like "the old days".
My bike is the same. Near the top and I thought that I had over filled but checking hot it shows full with no blow by.
My 2015 has a one dot difference between hot & cold.
The way I get the cold and hot check is my bike is hot when busting down the interstate in a hard pull against a head wind and packing heavy, its then that my motor is at temp and then that the oil level can reach its max level on the stick. Checking my level back in the garage is not the same.
At the end of a ride, I let the bike idle uprite for a few minutes. Shut it off & let it set on the side stand & check the level. Saturdays ride was almost 500 miles, it was hot.
I read that some here put less oil in the bike for an oil change than the manual calls for which is 4 quarts with filter change. Asking those who have more experience with HD's than I do as to why I should put in less oil than what the manual calls for. Appreciate the advice.

You are correct in that the capacity is 4 qts, but when you drain during a service only aprox 3 will drain out and the manual calls for the level to be 1/2 way up the stick when checked cold. hope this helps.
on my 14 SGS i have always drained and removed filter. I add a bit to the new filter before installing it from one quart the add the rest of that quart plus 2 more for a total of 3 qts. Puts me in the middle of the stick every time cold.
I just got back from a 30 mile ride. I let the bike sit for about 5 minutes and when I checked it, the dipstick showed one circle above halfway. When it was cold, it was one circle below halfway.
