Air pressure in rear shocks

Air pressure in rear shocks
The touring bikes come with air adjustable shocks in the rear. The schrader valve for inflating them is easily accessed by opening the left saddlebag lid. You don't even have to take the bag off. Recommended air pressures run 35 to 45 depending on whether you ride with a passenger and luggage. So I bought a pump on Amazon.com specifically designed for this. It is similar to the Harley pump and is very nicely made. When I hooked it up I was surprised to see "zero pressure in the system! I'm guessing these things are shipped from the factory with zero pressure and the dealer is supposed to inflate them? Anyhow, it was very easy to drop 35 pounds in it. I'd recommend anyone with a new touring bike check their pressures.

First time I checked my it had 10. I increased it to 40 because the wife rides with me most of the time. When I'm alone, I really can't tell the difference between 10 & 40. But when she's also aboard I can tell a difference if I've forgotten and left it at 10. She's probably 150 (just a guess because there is no way she'd tell me. LOL) and I'm around 163 +/- a couple)

MY bike was handed over to me with 30lbs. I assume the dealer did this during prep. I too have heard of others over the years taking delivery with no air in the shocks.
I purchased the Harley hand pump during an open house getting a 15% discount making the price a little easier to swallow. Nice little pump though.

Same here. No pressure. They also failed to turn on the security system, install the mid frame heat shields, flash the boom rom that had been out for a month, or set the 5-digit security code. I bought in Feb, it took 2 weeks to deliver and during that time they did nothing to the bike. So much for that dealer set up fee.
