Default 1000 mile service - Synthetic Oil?

--Coming up on my 1000 mile service on my '14 SGS and I have read threads on the cost of the service, but not many on the '14's and going synthetic vs regular oil.

Just wondering the thoughts on if I should go synthetic or stick with regular and why or why not.

Thanks!

A recent thread mentioned that Harley synthetic was not a true synthetic but a blend, I'm going with that for my first service. I have a gift card so I'll use the dealer first time, after that I'll go to my regular (highly trusted) indy shop and talk to him about non-syn vs. blend vs. full syn. and go with his recommendations. Figure dino oil for the first 1000, HD blend (?) up to 5K and maybe full syn. after that.

Changed all three to synthetic, motor is quieter, transmission is quieter, primary is about the same but neutral is easier to find.

I'm surprised your motor is quieter. Cooler yes but not quieter. Syn3 or any synthetic is thinner. I heard more valvetrian noise when I made the switch to Syn3. Also if you tell the Dealer to use synthetic in all three holes, they will put GL5 in the tranny. GL5 is standered synthetic gear oil used in auto diffs. You have tell them if you want something else like ( Redline) for example.

My service manager at my local dealer said to stay away from the synthetic... I did run it in my 2012 RGC after the 1000 mile service and didn't notice any issues with noise or shifting, but on that same note there was a thread here a little while back on synthetic which a lot of people commented on... I too am coming up on that 1000 miles and was thinking about it for my bike but hard to say now... LOL...

I put Amsol in all three. 20 50 in motor and primary. Amsol gear oil in trans.
Had Syn3 in when I changed. The oil the dealer had in the primary was very nasty and had metal filings in it when I changed it. Thinking of changing it again at maybe at 1000 miles.

All 2014 CVO models come from the factory with Syn3 motor oil. It is a blended synthetic. I use Harley formula+ oil for the tranny and primary oil, and Mobile 1 V-Twin full synthetic for the motor.

I just passed to 1000 mile mark yesterday and going to head out and put a few hundred more on today... I'm on the fence with going full synthetic yet, I usually do in my trucks but I run them a lot more miles than I do the bikes... Gotta try and set up my service for next weekend.

I put Syn3 in at the 1000 mike service. It runs cooler and protects the engine better. I'm sure you'll get all sorts of comments to the contrary.

My bike's a '09 vs. '14, but swapped crap HD oil @ 50-miles...right after running MotoTuneUSA new-engine break-in process.

Motor = M1 20W/50 V-twin-Synth
Tranny = Spectro 6-speed GO-Synth
Primary = Spectro Primary Fluid-Synth

Been running strong/hard since w/"0" failures or issues.

BLUF: Do/run what "you" want, or reap the repercussions of "OMG, another oil thread" gang...
