Warning - Problem with 21" wheel upgrade on SGS or any ABS 2014
#12
All 14 touring models require brackets to raise the stock front fender for a 21" wheel unlike the earlier touring models (except the CVO's). Brackets range in price from $40 to about $100 depending on the brand.
If you turn on your bike and there is not an ABS light that is orange on before you start moving you do not have ABS. Or you can look at the left side (from on the bike) of the front wheel and see if there is a regular axle spacer or a black ABS pick up with a black wire coming off of it which is usually zip tied to the brake line.

Hogpro-would changing the rear to a 18x5 with a 180 tire raise the back any and what about the 200 rear would that change the handling if the bike any. I'm not too worried about the 21 raising the front any as I have the HD lowering kit for the front forks. I got the front lowered and got the MCC seat mod and I'm really happy with the way it rides and especially the fact that I'm flat footed.

The other sizes for the rear would be 16x5.5" (1/2" wider than the stock rear wheel but the same diameter) with a 180/65/16 tire which is the same size as the stock tire or a 17x6.25 (1" larger in diameter and 1.25" wider than stock) with a 200/55/17 tire. The 17 will sit maybe 1/4" higher than stock.
How else can I help?

If you have a 2014 model WITHOUT ABS you can do any size combination without ill effect.

Just an update guys... We just heard from a customer that his shop got a Dunlop 130/60/21 tire to work along with the stock 16" rear wheel due to the lower 60 profile tire. We are doing some testing here and will keep this thread up-to-date with what we continue to learn on this matter.
