Default What coolant for twin cooled motor?

Can you use any orange premixed extended life coolant in the 2014 twin Cooled motor? Owners manual just says to use "GENUINE HARLEY DAVIDSON EXTENDED LIFE ANTIFREEZE AND COOLANT" It says it is premixed , do not add water. Doesn't give a spec for compatible coolants. Harley only sells it in 1 gal jugs for $22.95. The entire cooling system only holds 1.1 quarts. A gallon of Prestone is $10.99 at Walmart and I can use it in my cars also. Honda sells orange premixed coolant in quart containers with a long skinny neck that would be easy to carry in a saddle bag and pour into the coolant bottle without a funnel. It's more expensive then the HD coolant but only have to buy a quart. It's $8.99 a quart. I can't imagine Harley's coolant being anything but the cheapest extended life coolant they can re-brand.

I had to top off the reservoir, Harley coolant was $24 a gallon, the local Auto Barn had orange pre-mixed, I think it was Texaco for $12. I tried to find specs on the HD fluid, couldn't find anything specific so bought and used the cheaper brand. I don't think Harley will send it out for analysis if anything ever happens and I've only had to use a small amount so I'm not worried. You should be fine with the Walmart brand...

I would like info on this also...kinda ridiculous buying a gallon for the harley.
I have quarts of Honda coolant for my scooter. I don't know, what color it is?
Isn't coolant the same if it says works with all brands? Hope this doesn't turn into a coolant thread...like them other 100 threads about best oil!

All coolants are not the same. That doesn't necessarily mean they are not compatible. Personally, after putting out $26k for a new bike, I think saving $10 for a gallon of coolant doesn't make a lot of sense.

Soon we will have SE SynC coolant. Travels faster through your cooling system, reducing temps....for the bargain price $39.95 gallon.

This is of course fictional... Time will tell if any of this guess comes true.

The price per gallon doesn't bother me except I don't need or want a gallon. My coolant level in the bottle has dropped about 1" since they replaced my thermostat housing and filler neck in mid November. I checked and no leaks. I mentioned it to the service manager and he said that's normal. The coolant bottle isn't sealed so you will slowly loose coolant from it to evaporation. I only need a few onces to top it off. If it's some special formula from Harley why not sell quart bottles? The entire cooling system only holds 1.1 quarts. I would probably never use a full gallon. If I can use Prestone premix extended life coolant I could use it in my car also.

Greetings,
If it is the same coolant used in the VRod then it is Peak Global Lifetime 50/50 in gold colored container. Google "Harley-Davidson extended coolant and antifreeze MSDS sheet." YMMV

It is not just the money. I dont want to have to buy a whole gallon of something that is going to sit around my garage for ever and cause a disposal problem for me some day. I also sometimes just resent that HD is gouging me. If they sold it by the quart I would not be as concerned.
