Default Visor Trim Ring

OK, maybe I'm an idiot here but here it goes. I bought the Visor Style Trim Ring p/n 67700216 and the included instructions say it mounts over top of the OEM trim ring. I tried installing this thing last night and I'll be damned if I could get it to fit correctly.

Anyone, install one of these before and if so, is there anything special that needs to be done that is not clearly explained in the instructions??

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,
DW

I just put one on my Limited. Read the instructions CAREFULLY. Make sure you loosen the stock ring enough to get the lip of the accessory ring behind the stock ring. The accessory ring only has a lip on the bottom half. Tap it on with the heal of your hand to make sure it seats. Then tighten the STOCK ring screw, after that is snug, once again making sure the accessory ring is seated, tighten the accessory ring screw. I put some blue loctite on that special nut as well. Mine fits great.

When I install trim rings I loosen the stock ring and then wrap a strap around the trim ring and tighten untill it is together at the bottom. Then i put the bolt and nut on, then tighten the stock trim ring. Comes out perfect every time.

Bushpilot these new rings are tapered to fit in the smaller opening, not sure the strap thingy will work or not. Did you actually try that on a '14 or not. The new one is a bit tricky compared to older ones, and a bit harder to seat.

It helps to have two guys, one squeezing the new ring around the loosened original ring, this helps get it seated and stay there while you tighten the screws as you can intermittently ending up tightening the optional ring last.

The main issue with the new ones is the limited space in the fairing hole, it just fits. I didn't have any problem at all doing it alone, just need to do it exactly as the instructions say.

if i want to put a black powder coated visor trim ring on, should I powder coat the stock chrome ring black too? Or will that be hidden and out of sight once I put the visor trim ring on?

I have a gap of about a 1/4in at the bottom of mine. Is that normal?

Yes it is normal, same thing here on my RK. Have seen pictures of other bikes with the trim ring and they all have that gap. Poor design.

Might try the strap idea that Bushpilot mentioned, that gap drives me crazy.
