Hi,

I ordered this entire kit from my dealer (speakers, color matched pods, lowers) and the lowers came in but the speakers and speaker pods are on the way.

The question.....

Difficult install? I am going to install it myself and wanted to ask a few questions if anyone out there did it themself.

1) Did taking the drill to the lowers chip the paint or plastic? I will tape it.

2) Did the kit come with the grommets?

3) STEP 13 says:

See Figure 12. Route the wiring harness under the fairing
up to the radio and connect to either [162] (without fairing

amp) or [313] (with fairing amp).
How do yo know which connection is the 162 and which is the 313?

4) The instructions say:

Have a Harley-Davidson dealer apply the specially
developed sound equalization

BOOM! Audio fairing lower speakers.
Will they work without this download? What does it really do?

not sure about the install...but as far as I heard when I went to my dealers boom work shop.....in order for the additional speakers to work...you need the download to "tell" the radio that you have other speakers....

Yes you will need to get the dealer to do a flash download. I installed the rear speakers on my added tourpak to my SGS and I had to bring the bike in to get it hooked to their computer and flashed/download. It didn't cost to much they charged me 15 min of labour. They were fair with the pricing.

 

How did it go?

 

Upgrading my tunes now and I can honestly say those speaker pods can kiss my a$$ and whoever installed those 6 inners bolts,twisted 2 flex extensions trying to get them out.I've worked on Harley's for years and never had bolts torqued that tight.

 

The bolts on the pods are crazy tight and in a crazy location. A true pain in the butt.

But....the install went well, sounds amazing, and just a great product.
