Default 3500 miles and this is what the pistons look like.

Long story short. Had the stage 4 131 kit put on and took the stock 114 top end home. I took a look at all the parts and the pistons have a sheet ton of carbon on them. Well I think its a lot. What do you all think?

I think that's excessive...

That's why I vent all my bike's breathers to the atmosphere. But my bikes are all twin cams.

You are lucky to have an M8.

You can retrofit the new vented transmission CCV cover to your bike. You could then plug the head breathers, or leave them in place. The new vented transmission cover (introduced in the 2023 1/2 CVO bikes, and some 2024 bikes) has shown to be a much better venting system. It significantly reduces the amount of oil that comes out the head breathers if left in place with the new trans cover vent, and/or the oil that actually makes it out the trans cover vent tube.

Doesn't look excessive to me. Should be a nice thin layer. You want a good coat. It acts as a thermal barrier.

^^^ This^^^ Need to get out and ride more and get the engine temp up for at least 30 minutes. At 3,500 miles the engine is not broken in. What did your spark plugs look like? Looks normal if you are just starting the engine, riding a few miles then shutting it off.

I cleaned the pistons when I had my 103 apart and scoped the cylinders after a few thousand miles. My breathers are vented to the ground and my pistons looked similar to yours. A little carbon isn't a problem.

Not excessive, but looks like it wants more RPM's. Do you lug it?
