With properly adjusted clutch ensure primary fluid level is like diagram. Don’t get hung up on ounces get hung up on level. Mine calls for 38 I used about 35 last time. Also I switched to 75/140 gear oil in tranny and formula plus in primary. Considerable difference in neutral. Not like my sons Honda but vast improvement. Jmho

So most people here and some on YouTube I've seen recommend Mobil 1 V-Twin Full Synthetic Motorcycle Oil 20W-50. That's what I use on my Sportster.

I'm confused - is the Mobile 1 gear oil or not?

It’s motor oil, just like HD Syn 3 20w50 that HD will tell you to put in a trans or primary.

Is this the right oil for the primary then? The one suggested by @702

Almost an inch.
So initial to full engagement is the middle third of travel. Sounds about right. The advice about continuing to break it in seems prudent.

Make sure the primary does not have too much fluid in it.

Use Redline Shockproof in the transmission.

Way to know if the clutch is dragging is to have it in gear, engine off, on level ground...pull in the clutch lever. Does it roll as easily in gear as it does in neutral? If not, either clutch is out of adjustment, or there is too much oil in the primary.
